Shanghai

With a population nearing 24 million Shanghai is the most populous city in China and the world. Economic reforms in the early 1990’s fuelled a dramatic transformation of the city into a powerhouse of global finance and commerce leading to a rampant building phase. Its skyline appeared to change weekly with new skyscrapers added as if on a conveyor belt.

The Shanghai of today is unrecognisable from the city of 20 years ago, whilst the Bund area by the Huangpu River has many examples of early 20th-century architecture, the Pudong district features a wealth of new mega-structures including the distinctive the Jin Mao Tower.
