I spent much of November and early December shooting a commission for Siemens in the UK for their Annual Review of 2007. The shot above is one of the commissioned shots, from the offshore wind farm at Burbo Banks in Liverpool, I also shot plaster and glass factories, Great Ormond Street Hospital’s MRI unit, London Underground, the Welsh Assembly, a water treatment plant, the M25 and Siemens HQ in Surrey! They also chose to use a number of my existing shots. You can download a PDF of the Review here:

Whilst in California I visited the Burning Man Festival in Nevada - an event which is almost impossible to describe. Black Rock City is an entirely temporary city which springs up for a week for the Burning Man festival, and then vanishes, leaving no trace on the hard dust bed of the desert (the playa). The rule of the festival is that there are no spectators, everyone must participate, whether that’s though incredible constructions, outlandish costumes or performance skills - this creates a unique ‘anything goes’ atmosphere. This effect is increased by the other rule - no money must change hands; everyone tries to help out everyone else. And despite this sounding unworkable, it in fact works beautifully (though there were some tricky moments when my companion was asked to ‘drop’ certain items of clothing as ‘collateral’ to borrow a pen!).

This panorama shows the city seen from the desert side - you can see more panoramas of Burning Man and Black Rock City in my portfolio.

‘Visit London’ bought in turf from the Vale of York and used it to turn Trafalgar Square into a green space for a couple of days. The first panorama shows the effects of the night before, with the grass covered in litter. In the second panorama, Will has used his expert retouching skills to clean up the turf so it is once again more village green than Glastonbury!

On a recent trip to Chennai to shoot for a commission I managed to get a few days off to explore for myself. Chennai (formerly Madras) is an industrial city on the south-eastern Indian coast. Despite its commercial significance, it’s also well known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture. The coastline was badly hit by the 2004 Tsunami, with more than 200 dead, and many more displaced and losing their livelihoods. Chennai is a vibrant city, and it was a delight to spend a few days exploring.
