Whitby, North Yorkshire

Whitby is defined by its sea connections - it's here that a young Captain Cook was apprenticed to a local ship owner and learnt the skills that would enable him to sail out and discover new lands. Famed for whaling and smuggling, Bram Stoker also had his 'Dracula' landing at Whitby. The pier is an incredible, double decked structure that allows you to walk out and survey the North Sea, in this virtual tour, you can see the ravages the sea has inflicted on the pier over the decades.
