Highway 1, State Route 1, Pacific Coast Highway, Shoreline Highway. Whatever you call it, it is (with the possible exception of Route 66) the world’s most famous road. And with good reason – the scenery is magnificent and the route from Orange County in the South, through Los Angeles, Big Sur, central coast, Monterey, San Francisco and Mendocino County in the north, takes in some of California’s most famous sights. A road trip on this road becomes a challenge to stop shooting every scene, and only capture the most outstanding views, the most pleasing light.
I sat waiting for evening on this stretch of coastline near Monterey, and was rewarded with that renowned, intense Californian sundown light, bringing out the detail in the landscape and a slight mist rolling in over Rocky Creek Bridge.
