Shanghai

With a population nearing 24 million Shanghai is the most populous city in China and the world. Economic reforms in the early 1990’s fuelled a dramatic transformation of the city into a powerhouse of global finance and commerce leading to a rampant building phase. Its skyline appeared to change weekly with new skyscrapers added as if on a conveyor belt.

Shanghai has been transformed within a generation: the Bund along the Huangpu River keeps its early twentieth-century frontage, while Pudong across the water is a district of towers, the Jin Mao Tower among them.
