Whilst synonymous with London the River Thames is England’s longest river that also passes through Windsor, Oxford and Reading to name just a few. As the river meanders through London it passes many of its famous landmarks, Tower Bridge and Waterloo Bridge just a couple of the many bridges it flows beneath. Its journey also carries it past the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Tower of London.
Canary Wharf was built on the old West India Docks in the Isle of Dogs. With the advent of major container ships in the 1960s, the docks, which were suitable only for smaller vessels, had steadily declined and by 1980 had closed entirely. The area has been reinvented as a major London business district, with […]
View from the roof of the Leadenhall Building looking out over London in the January sun. This is one of the times of day that light and the clouds can alter swiftly, and to capture a high resolution image in the few instants before you lose that special moment where sunlight and cloud concatenate is […]
London is so vast, and such a city of architectural extremes that each new vantage point on high gives a new perspective on the familiar. Even within the square mile, the skyline shifts and provides something new to fascinate. When I first lived in London, Tower 42 was known as the Natwest Tower (the shapes […]
When setting up a shoot from a tall building, it’s easy to become absorbed in the technicalities. The kit, the back-up in case of equipment failure, the technical process, waiting for the right weather, there’s much to plan for. And then, there are moments of pure magic for me when the light is briefly quite […]
No.1 London Bridge (the building with the cut-out section right by the bridge) forms the foreground to the dramatic cluster at London Bridge Quarter, home to the Shard. It has become a more exciting section of the Thames to shoot, and the river moorings have a pleasing echo of the Shard’s shape. Many people’s experience […]
The scale of London can only be truly appreciated from a height. There is no better place in London to do this than from the Shard. This image was shot from the very top of the Shard, 310 metres above London, which is more than 60 metres above the public viewing platform on the 72nd […]

Across the river, in the City of London, many of its iconic skyscrapers are bursting into light as twilight falls […]
A dramatic panorama of London, looking up the River Thames past Waterloo Bridge, Hungerford Bridge towards Westminster. I captured this panorama of the London skyline at night from the Shard at around the 35th floor, whilst the building was still under construction. The Shard’s height has given me the opportunity to show the London cityscape from a new angle, looking down on the Thames as it snakes through the city from London […]

The SIS Building is the headquarters of the British Secret Intelligence Service.
