Cityscape panorama - the scene shows a wall at Virgin Radio where there's a large-scale panorama of the London skyline printed on the wall

Virgin Radio HQ Cityscape Panorama

Virgin Radio HQ sits in The News Building, right beside London Bridge Station. It’s a landmark that looks out over some of the most recognisable views in the city.

When the station relaunched, breakfast show DJ Chris Evans wanted to walk into work past an enormous cityscape panorama of the City of London. I was commissioned to create that view.

The result is a high resolution cityscape captured from the roof of the News Building to fit the bill. It takes in the spectacular views from the News Building, from Tower Bridge to the City of London and beyond. From Tower Bridge on the left to the heart of the City of London on the right, the image reveals an incredible level of detail: glass, steel, and skyline all glowing in the London light.

You can see the image in situ above. The finished print measures 13.5 metres wide by 2.6 metres high, covering an entire wall of the Virgin Radio offices.

The cityscape panorama wasn’t captured in a single frame. Instead, it’s made up of many individual images. Each is precisely aligned and stitched together to create a single, seamless London cityscape photograph. This process allows for extraordinary resolution. It’s enough to step close to the image and explore the tiny details of the skyline, while maintaining clarity and sharpness throughout. Capturing the scene from this vantage point gave me a chance to see London from the same height as many of its towers, looking across the river to the evolving skyline.
